This is a squat Raku pottery bud vase with a powdered surface (copper matte) finish. We have had it ourselves since before the millennium.
Height is 5.75 inches. Diameter is 6.375 inches. Weighs 1 lb 14 oz.

Raku pottery came out of a 16th century Japanese tradition. Nowadays it is fired at no more than 1830 degrees Fahrenheit, a low temperature for firing processes, and cooled rapidly, often in a combustible material like sawdust, straw or paper. Other forms of Raku have flat matte finishes or hard shiny metallic finishes. Because of the low firing, the clay remains porous and without further treatment does not hold water.
