This vintage ceramic wall vase is shaped in the form of a cicada and came out of Valluris, that area in the south of France long known for its pottery and the bold vivacious tone of its decorative glazes, in the middle to late 1900's.
It is 8.25 inches long, 3.5 inches wide and 3 inches high. It weighs 13 oz.
The mouth is pierced permitting a loop of wire for hanging on a wall. The opening is suitable for holding small, dried flowers or fragrant herbs, and both the shape and the colors lend themselves to a frivolous, offbeat or bold tone as a design element.
The colors are a glossy grayish and aqua on the wings, yellow and black.
These pieces are hand painted and glazed.
Condition is very good. Normal wear. There are no cracks, chips, flakes.
