The “Applause” plate was issued in 1984 to commemorate Erte’s 92nd birthday.
It portrays the wild Firedancer driven to even higher limits of her dance by the approval and admiration of her audience. A heavy double band of gold echoes the flowing streamers, only to be interrupted by many pairs of clapping hands. Erte thus captured the feeling of “Le Jazz Hot” of the 1920’s, the most beloved period of his Parisian life.
This porcelain plate was produced in West Germany by Anthony Arts International and the Edna Hibel Studio.
Diameter is 9.5 inches.
The edition was limited to 7500 numbered plates. An additional 25 replacement plates were reserved and stored for the purpose of replacing broken plates which had been registered after purchase. These were not numbered. (Source: original documentation from a numbered 1984 plate)
